John Craigie – Singer-Songwriter

John Craigie

Singer-songwriter John Craigie is a renowned story teller, known as a “Modern-Day Troubadour,” entertaining his audiences throughout the 50 states, Canada, and Europe, performing at festivals such as Burning Man and Gregory Alan Isakov’s Farm.  Whether on stage in sold out venues or intimate settings, John’s gift of telling stories allows him to combine his two passions of music and connecting with his audiences, as he blends humor and soulful poetry to melody with his folk/Americana style.  His new album “No Rain, No Roses” is due to be released January 27, 2017, an ode to Portland.  Its title comes from the Buddhist saying “No Mud, No Lotus,” meaning you learn from the negative in life to make good come things come forth.  John states that he sees the purpose of music as letting people know you are not alone.  True to his intent, John Craigie brings together fellow Portland music scene artists to create his latest collection of songs, recorded in informal locations.  This is a reflection of previous folk eras of the sixties and seventies, and includes artists such as Jay Cobb Anderson and Tyler Thompsons, as well as musicians he has spent time with while on the road.  John’s touring companions have included artists such as Todd Snider, Shook Twins, Nicki Bluhm, ALO, Steve Adams, and more,  as Craigie has shared his craft on the road since 2003.  His influences have been John Prine, Ario Guthrie, James Taylor, Gillian Welch, and Pete Seeger, but it is clear that John Craigie has a style and audience following all his own.  In 2015, John won the Northwest String Summit band contest, the same year he released the album “Working On My Farewell,” featuring Craigie on the electric guitar.  This was his 14th release; nine being studio albums, three live albums, and two cover albums.  Touring Hawaii and the western states at the beginning of 2017,  John returns to the US mainland with a full tour including performing at The Grand Hotel Ballroom, Midwest Music Festival in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
